Tell readers a little about yourself and where you live. My name is Nicole and I have a great passion for interior design and building. I was born and raised in New York and have 3 children (one girl and two boys) who are now young adults.

My passion for creating began when I was about 5 years old crafting my own Christmas cards, and making gifts for my mom because I had no money to buy her presents. I painted my bedroom pink when I was just 9 years old. I now live in West Palm beach Florida with my wife Dianne of 14 years.

How would you describe your decor style in three words and who or what influenced that style?  My style is tropical modernism and vintage glam. Sorry four words lol. My surroundings are full of color and palm trees, living in a modern ranch style home I wanted to embrace that by bringing the outdoors in and by adding a vintage flair. I love the Gatsby era.

Your outdoor space is full of personality and style. Tell us about it. We love the idea of having the resort-vacation feel at home everyday, so our goal was to create a tropical modern oasis, a small slice of paradise in our backyard.

The first step was building a cabana. I've always been a fan from the really large sized structural cabanas to the small tent like ones you see at many resorts poolside. So I decided to build my own.

I wanted something that was not only beautiful, but functional and would stay up all year round and would survive hurricane season. And that’s when Coco Cabana was born lol.

She's a beast, made of solid wood, and pressure treated deck boards and lighting I installed myself along with solar string lighting. I used bamboo to cover the top and it was the perfect solution to add that tropical flair. Hanging lanterns to complete the look.

How did you decide on the flow of your backyard? Our backyard has specific areas for entertaining. Not one area feels isolated from the other. The cabana ties everything together sitting directly in front, at one end of the pool. And because of it's location and size I decorate it for parties and the holidays giving our backyard a unique look all year round. I’m just getting started! Outdoor kitchen and pizza oven are in the works.

At Reflektion Design our mantra is, See Yourself at Home. How does your home reflect who you are? My style is forever changing, it changes as I grow older in the greatest kind of way. The constant however, the things that mean the most to me tend to be hand carved/handmade because of its meaning and the connection with the artist and culture it came from. So it's important to have those items around me at home.
