We're in the midst of black history month thinking about not only our ancestors who've paved the way but also our children who as the song says are our future. Now more than ever black youth need to be inspired, nourished and shown positive examples of themselves. Check my list of 10 books for black youth.
David Quarles, IV is a modern renaissance man. He's a talented interior designer, jewelry designer and he can chef up an amazing vegan dish too. And probably the most fun fact, he'll show you how to work off those calories in one of his high energy Zumba classes. He does it all with style. Let's take a look at his Memphis, TN home filled with two of my favorite design elements: color and art!
N'Ckyola "Nikki" Green has a passion for creating beautiful spaces that are functional and sustainable. Her interior design company, Extraordinary by Design focuses on green design and her knack for up-cycling and reusing items you already own is inspiring. Most of us are staying home for the holidays this year but that doesn't mean you have to dial down the holiday cheer. Nows the time to create new holiday traditions that reflect who you are. Check out my Afro modern dining table reveal with decor brand Allmodern.
Riche Holmes Grant is the queen of tables-capes (a name I affectionately gave her). She styles tables for all occasions in such a chic way that speaks to the soul with color, texture, and style. But she's also an attorney and talented content creator on Youtube where you'll find amazing DIY projects, self care tips and delicious recipes. I'm excited to show you her Maryland home let's take a look.
Blogger, decorator and die hard thrifter, Jamala Wallace is the queen of Afro antique chic. Her eye for timeless pieces that celebrate black culture is inspiring. Jamala Wallace transforms spaces (including her own) with fabulous treasures from thrift and antique stores so I couldn't wait to show you her South Carolina home on the blog.
Excited to show you the bedroom reveal. This room was a little tricky because I'm an warm earth tones kinda girl but I decided to challenge myself with cooler colors in this space (bright green, turquoise and red). Luckily, we already had many of the decor elements - bed, bedding, and curtains with an Afro modern vibe but I still felt the room wasn't complete. I call it the last mile of decorating a room. Luckily, AllModern had everything I needed to complete the room.
A self proclaimed Southern Hippie, Starr Howard is well on her way to mogul status. Her company, Howard Companies, LLC is a media company where she cranks out engaging content like her podcast, In My Opinion with Starr Howard and a digital magazine. She also has a natural flare for style and can be found on Instagram making fashion forward moves. I consider Starr one of my day ones, she's been a consistent customer from the beginning and I appreciate her a ton! Let's take a look at her Oakland, CA home.
If you've been following me on Instagram you know my partner and I moved to Atlanta a year ago and scored a lovely 3 bedroom rental home. We both have full schedules so decorating it has been a slow and steady process but I'm happy to share some updates and a sneak peek of our bedroom featuring finishing touches from AllModern! Check it out.
"Creating a home you love should be effortless." Wise words from founder and Chief Interior Stylist of Effortless Composition, Brittiny Terry. Her pillows, art and more give off an easy breezy eclectic vibe which is a nice balance to the often bold colors/patterns African design is known for. I consider her style the yin to my yang. Hahaha Let's take a look at her home and get inspired.
When I think of all things plants, unique art and cultural elements Tracey Hairston of Mocha Girl Place immediately comes to mind. She mixes thrifted finds with vintage pieces with ease and did I mention her plant game is on point! Let's take a closer look into her Chesapeake, Virginia home which I'm obsessed with and think you will be to.
